Q: Can I access ESPN3 using the “Watch ESPN” mobile app? Does BendBroadband provide the full “Watch ESPN” service?
A: BendBroadband is only able to provide ESPN3 service and only via online (PC) access at this time. ESPN is currently negotiating with the National Cable & Telecommunications Coop (NCTC) on a deal for the full “Watch ESPN” online/mobile app service. We gave it our best shot, but due to the complexities involved with this negotiation/deal ESPN does not want to work directly with each cable operator. BendBroadband is a member of NCTC and we will certainly look to offer this service once NCTC completes a deal. Unfortunately we can’t offer any estimate of when a deal might get done.
Q: Why do you require BendBroadband Cable TV and High Speed Service to access ESPN3?
A: ESPN3 follows the TV Everywhere (or as we call it BendBroadband2Go) model whereby those who subscribe to a TV network gain the added benefit and value of access to programming from that network on line and in most cases also on mobile devices such as the iPad. While most programmers who provide us with TV Everywhere service do not require that the customer also be subscriber of the cable company’s high speed Internet service, ESPN does have this requirement and it’s part of their contractual terms for ESPN3.
Q: Why is ESPN Classic moving from Essentials to Preferred?
A: In order to keep our cable TV package prices as stable as possible and better position ESPN Classic, we worked with the team at ESPN to gain agreement to move ESPN Classic from the Essentials package to Preferred. ESPN Classic has a very small audience and thus is better suited for an optional level of video service like the Preferred package. We are making this change in conjunction with the launch of the ESPN3 online service. ESPN3 online programming is available to all cable TV subscribers who have Essentials or Preferred and also subscribe to BendBroadband High Speed Internet service. Now you can watch great ESPN programming on your PC. Did you know that about 60% of the programming on ESPN3 is unique and not found on ESPN’s cable TV network?
